One held for attempted rape in Diphu
Diphu police apprehended one person on Thursday evening for allegedly attempting to rape a woman
- DIPHU — Diphu police
apprehended one person on Thursday evening for allegedly attempting to rape a
woman at the Panbari locality near the Diphu railway track around 9 pm.
- According to sources, the woman was returning home from work
at the Diphu market when the accused allegedly attempted to rape her.
- Hearing the woman's loud screams, nearby villagers from
Panbari came to her rescue and apprehended the suspect, who was promptly handed
over to the police.
- The accused was identified as Sarful Islam, a resident of
Dhing, Nagaon district, under the jurisdiction of Dhing police station.
Following the incident, the victim and members of the All Party Hills Leaders
Conference (APHLC) filed a FIR against Islam at Diphu police station, resulting
in the registration of case No. 23/25.
- As per the accounts of the woman said she heading home from
work, when a man from behind tried to overpower and attempted to rape her.
- Boy drowns in pond
- In a tragic incident, a 17-year-old boy drowned while
bathing with his friends in a pond behind the Botanical Garden, some 5 km along
the Diphu- Lumding Road, on Friday at around 10:30 am.
- The victim, Arindam Kumar, was a resident of the Basic LP
School area, close to the Diphu Municipal Board.
- According to his friend, Pragyan Kumar Boruah, the three youths
- Pragyan Kumar Boruah, Takeno Rengma, and Arindam Kumar - had gone to bathe in
the pond located behind the Botanical Garden. While bathing, the three boys
attempted to swim to the other side. Tragically, Arindam drowned in the middle
of the pond. Despite efforts by his two friends to pull him to safety, he sank
deeper into the water.
- The nearby locals came and retrieved the body from the pond.
The body was later taken to Diphu Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem
examination.
