One Health Day 2025 observed at District Hospital Tuensang

DIMAPUR — On the occasion of One Health Day 2025, the Centre for One Health–National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), National One Health Programme for Prevention and Control of Zoonoses (NOHP-PCZ), Sentinel Surveillance Site, BSL-2 Laboratory, and District Hospital (DH) Tuensang conducted an awareness programme for the health workers of DH Tuensang.


One Health Day is an international campaign that celebrates the need for a One Health approach to address shared health threats at the human-animal-environment interface. The day is observed on November 3 every year with the objective of raising awareness on the concept of One Health, with the theme "By protecting one, we help protect all".


According to an update, the awareness programme was chaired by Sungjemmenla Thonger, lab technician, SSS-NOHP-PCZ, DH Tuensang, while Dr. Sakuyuba Imchen, medical superintendent, DH Tuensang, delivered the welcome note and highlighted the essence of the One Health Day celebration, emphasising the importance of collaborative efforts among different sectors.


The theme speech was delivered by Dr. Alemba R. Jamir, senior specialist, DH Tuensang. He highlighted the significance of the One Health Day celebration, the theme for this year, and the challenges arising due to the absence of diagnosis for various diseases such as Melioidosis.

Unity March held in Kiphire to mark Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary


Dr. Mohan Sharma, microbiologist of the BSL-2 Laboratory, DH Tuensang, briefed the participants on the One Health concept, priority zoonotic diseases, and the available tests in the facility.


Dr. Aojongshi, veterinary assistant surgeon, Tuensang, delivered a lecture on deadly zoonotic diseases such as Brucellosis and food-borne diseases including Salmonellosis and Cysticercosis. He also explained the role of vaccination and deworming practices in controlling common diseases originating in livestock.


A total of 39 participants attended the programme, representing the CMO Office Tuensang, the Forest Department, NOHP-PCZ staff, the Nursing School faculty, and hospital staff.
