Kohima police manning Khuzama inter-state check gate, during routine checking and frisking on March 25, intercepted and detained one truck on suspicion of using fake registration number along with the driver.
On closer examination of the registration plate, it was found that a yellow coloured sticker bearing registration number MN04A1326 was pasted over the HSRP. On removing the sticker the original registration number was found inscribed as ML04B7233.
The documents produced by the driver was examined and found that the engine and chassis number did not tally with the one engraved on the vehicle. The vehicle was further subjected to thorough checking during which, another vehicle document was recovered from which it was ascertained that original registration number of the vehicle was ML04B 7233 with Chassis No. MAT457056D7E16465 and engine No. 497TC4EWY826595.
Accordingly, the driver of the vehicle identified as Henam Naoba @ Naoba Singh, son of Laxman Singh of Laphupat Tera village, PS – Mayang, Dist – Imphal West, Manipur, was taken into custody and interrogated during which he confessed that he was proceeding to Imphal to deliver the vehicle to one person namely Biswajit Singh for which he was paid Rs 20,000.
It was reported that the driver tried to bribe one of the personnel on duty with Rs 18,000 to let him go with the vehicle.
Case in this connection has been registered with Khuzama Police Station.
