DIMAPUR — A one-day seminar on basic officiating procedures in athletics was held at the CMTC Hall in Longleng on Thursday.
The event was organised by the Office of the District Youth Resources and Sports Officer, Longleng, in collaboration with the Phom Sports Association, according to a DIPR report.
Speaking at the programme, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Chairman of the Longleng District Sports Council, W Manpai Phom, credited the constant efforts of the District Sports Council, under the guidance of the Phom Sports Association, for initiating the new drive.
Marking it as the first step toward a bigger goal, he thanked all the participants for their dedication and hard work. He said the aspired change would come and programmes like this would lay the foundation for the district’s sporting system to grow and flourish.
He highlighted the need for national and international-level resources to help district players compete at the highest level. The DC also urged the resource persons to share their ideas and experiences to help build a better sports ecosystem from scratch, identify raw talent from rural areas, and groom them into professional athletes.
Resource persons, Physical Education Teacher, DOC Neikuosielie and Physical Education Teacher Bongshet Phom, trained the gathering on topics including call room and track events and starter and field events, followed by a question-and-answer session and practicals.
The programme was attended by all federating units of the Phom Area Sports Association.
