I salute the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) for relentlessly taking up hot burning issues that touches not only the students’ community but the general populaces of the state. And in this regard the protests rally against Armed Forces (Special Powers) Acts (AFSPA) on 11th August at Kohima is yet another milestone that will be credited to the glorious pages of the NSF. The AFSPA is widely profiled as the most controversial act in the country and the time is long overdue for this anti-people act to become history. While acknowledging the galaxy of leaders representing various civil societies scheduled to address the rally ,one name that caught my attention is the chairperson of the rally - Ms. Rose Mary Dzuvichu. This so-called champion of women’s cause cannot take us for a ride and hold us to ransom at her whims. What perplexes me is the rationale of the rally organiser to allow a woman of doubtful character to chair such an historic event. To stretch my argument, here we have a self-proclaimed social activist, who in March 2016 filed an FIR against Mr. Neiphiu Rio, the lone Naga Lok Sabha member. Brushing aside the intent and the motivation to question the educational qualification of a three-time Chief Minister, what intrigues me was the timing of the FIR. It may be pure coincidences but I’m compelled to surmised that she filed at the behest of her pay master and political godfather. The truth of the matter is she cannot conveniently question the lone Naga parliament member with ill motives, fancy cooked up story and at the time, be the face of the Naga people in such a big rally. This glaring double standard is unacceptable and at this juncture we cannot afford to send a wrong message outside. This is a clear textbook case of hypocrisy in public life and as a concerned citizen of the state; I cannot be a mute spectator and watch people dance to the tunes of her rhapsody’s music. Therefore, I would like to suggest that the organisers to come up with a new chairperson who have a credible image.
