A daylong free health check-up “camp wellness,” coupled with a plantation program, was conducted at Longwa village, situated at the Indo-Myanmar border of Mon district. The camp was organized by the Old Boys Association of Sainik School Imphal (Nagaland chapter), on Saturday February 20.
An initiative of the alumni of Sainik School of Imphal, around 25 members from diverse professions including doctors, engineers, administrators and entrepreneurs led by President Dr. Mhonbemo Ovung and general secretary Lima Imsong organized and conducted the camp, a note form the organizers informed on Saturday, February 20.
In a short inaugural programme, Yangba Konyak, Mon district’s superintendent of police, an alumni of Sainik School Imphal, thanked his colleagues, the Old Boys Association of Sainik School of Imphal, for organizing the health camp and plantation drive for the people living in the remote border areas of Myanmar.
He was optimistic that the health event would benefit the people and ‘it should not be an end but the beginning to cater such facilities to the poor and under privilege people living in the border areas.’ The police officer also appealed to the people to ‘avail the free medical facilities’ and to protect the trees provided and planted by the association for the benefit of the people.
Longkhong, chairman of the village council lauded the organizers, the district administration, medical officers and staffer of Phomching public health care centre, and the district hospital of Mon for the free health camp. He also thanked the security forces posted at Longwa for their support and assistance to the people of Longwa area in all fields.
Around 1, 200 people including those from across the border were registered and were provided free medical check-up and medicines, the organization said.
The association also planted trees around the village’s church and football ground. The conservation of environment programme by planting tree saplings was led by Khekiho Shohe, deputy director of the Soil & Water Conservation department.
The medical team comprised Dr. Kechangol Sophie, Dr. Lhouvizetou Belho, Dr. Mhabemo Ovung, Dr. Hokugha, Dr. Philip, Dr. Imliwapang, Dr. Temsulong and Doctors of Mon District Hospital and from Phomching public health centre, Dr. Chenjei Konyak.
