
Dimapur, Nov. 22 (EMN): Officials of Samagra Shiksha Nagaland and State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) attended a two-day regional workshop on Post-Foundational Learning Study (FLS) Interventions, conducted by National Council Educational Research and Training (NCERT), Ministry of Education and United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) in New Delhi on November 17 and 18.
The workshop was organised to release state-wise report for FLS and two officials from Samagra Shiksha and SCERT from each states/ UTs were invited for the regional workshop, an update from SCERT stated.
Nagaland was represented by Vekutulu Veyie, senior lecturer at SCERT; Benjungdenla Yaden, reader at SCERT; and Kelhikha Kenye, deputy mission director of Samagra Shiksha Nagaland.
During introductory session, Rashi Sharma, director of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, informed the officials from the states/ UTs to conduct analysis of the FLS state report and come up with action plans to improve achievement level of foundational literacy and numeracy. She also spoke on the need to link Samagra Shiksha plans with post FLS interventions.
Prof. Indrani Bhaduri, head of NAS Cell and ESD, NCERT, extended welcome address and gave the overview of the two-day regional workshop. She informed the participants that state specific workshops are required to be followed for deeper understanding of the findings in the FLS report and disseminate FLS report to all the teachers.
Indrani also stated that foundational learning is not only limited to literacy but it involves health, nutrition and overall well-being of children and reminded the states to prepare comprehensive intervention plans to improve learning outcomes of students.
Terry Durnnian, Unicef chief of education, made a presentation on Unicef's perspective on foundational learning study.
It mentioned that FLS study was conducted in line with NIPUN Bharat Mission to achieve universal foundational literacy and numeracy for all children of 3-8 years by 2026-27.
