Dimapur, June 16 (EMN): Expounding on the necessity to improve land productivity and produce sufficient food grains through sustainable and scientific management practices, Director of Agriculture M Ben Yanthan implored upon the officials to rededicate themselves and work hard for the upliftment of the agriculture sector in the state.
Yanthan stated this during the second-phase training and co-ordination meeting on "Record keeping, accounting and matter relating to audit" on June 16 in the conference hall of its directorate, an update from Agriculture department stated.
Yanthan reminded that Nagaland is an agrarian state, where farmers either small or marginal farmers practice subsistence farming which is also known as 'household farming.' He said the production is just enough for their household consumption with a little surplus production for trade and marketing.
In this regard, he emphasised on the need to improve land productivity and produce sufficient food grains through sustainable and scientific management practices.
"We have to plan of the strategies and encourage the farmers to change their mindset by way of showing the right technologies so as to make farming more remunerative," he added.
The training was followed by technical session chaired by the joint director of Agriculture, Jacob Yanthan, while Haridasan TK, senior accounting officer from Accountant General, Nagaland, was the resource person of the training.
