DIMAPUR — The Commissioner of Police (CP),
Dimapur, has notified all vehicles, including two-wheelers, to ply in an
odd-even system within Dimapur Municipal jurisdiction for a period of one
month, or till the completion of Road over Bridge (RoB) rehabilitation work
near Hotel Senti, whichever is earlier.
The new traffic regulation will come into effect from December 10 from 7 am to 6 pm daily.
In an order on Saturday, Commissioner of Police, Kevithuto
Sophie, said the odd-even system is in view of high traffic congestion owing to
the festive season and the ongoing RoB rehabilitation work and to ensure a
smooth flow of traffic for public convenience.
On odd dates (11th, 13th, 15th, and so on), only vehicles
ending with odd registration numbers, i.e., 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9, will be allowed
to ply.
On even dates (10th, 12th, 14th, and so on), only vehicles
with even registration numbers, i.e., 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8, will be allowed to ply.
This restriction will not be enforced on Sundays, December 25
(Christmas Day) and January 1, 2025 (New Year's Day).
However, government-registered vehicles, emergency service
vehicles, school buses, and public transport, including four- and two-wheeler
taxis except autorickshaws, are exempted from the odd-even system.
“Violation of the order will be penalised under section 177
of the MV Act 1988,” the order stated.
For successful implementation of the odd-even exercise, the
CP requested the public to cooperate accordingly and avoid unnecessary travels.
“Carpooling is recommended to avoid inconveniences,” it added.
