
Dimapur, Dec. 11 (EMN): Nagaland Women Vocational Training Institute (NWVTI) Emporium at Kohima-Imphal road near CRPF camp, Lerie, in Kohima was inaugurated on December 5 by I Meyionen Jamir, chief information commissioner of Nagaland, in presence of T Rollee Varieshim, senior assistant director (Handicraft) of HSC-Kohima.
The emporium was funded by the office of the Development Commissioner (Handicraft), Ministry of Textiles, government of India, and implemented by NWVTI.
An update from NWVTI stated that its managing director, Temjenlemla Jamir, highlighted the skill training provided to the artisans during her welcome speech. She expressed confidence that the emporium would be a medium for earning livelihood of the artisans and for preserving the rich handicrafts of Nagaland.
In his inaugural speech, Meyionen Jamir highlighted the importance of emporium in preserving history, art, culture and tradition. He reminded that the rich heritage and culture embedded in varied handicrafts are on the verge of extinction and need to be preserved through the medium of an emporium.
He lauded the office of Development Commissioner (Handicraft), government of India, for funding the emporium. He also appreciated the initiative of NWVTI for establishing the emporium and stated that it would provide alternative sources of income for the young Nagas.
Rollee Varieshim stated that the emporium would be a platform for artisans of Nagaland to showcase the handicrafts of Nagaland at one stop. He added that the emporium would act as a window of Naga culture, tradition, handicraft for the tourists. He further exuded confidence that artisans from all over Nagaland would be benefited through the emporium.
T Yanger Sor, state award recipient in woodcraft, stated that the emporium would be a medium for the artisans of Nagaland to showcase and sell their products. He appreciated NWVTI for implementing the project to assist the artisans.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by T Patoi Konyak, master trainer of NWVTI.
