DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 9: The detestable act of cheating by dishonoured butchers on innocent public was reported in Kohima wherein one person from Jotsoma village was cheated of half kilogram (500 gm) lesser from the purchase of 2 kgs pork on October 8.
Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO), in a statement issued by its Media Cell, said one prominent businessman from Jotsoma village was cheated by a butcher shop located opposite to Bethel Medical Centre in Upper PWD, Kohima, from the purchase of 2 kgs pork for Rs 400.
While buying 2 kgs of pork costing Rs 360 (Rs180 per kg of KMC rate), the butchers requested him to buy for a sum of Rs 400 (more than 2 kgs) for not having Rs 40 change to which he complied.
The victim found out the shortage while checking at home by a proper weighing scale. Irked by the dishonesty of the butchers, he brought it back and complaint about the shortage in weightment to which the butchers involved in unfair trade identified as Pukrove of Sathozu village and Neisevor of Viswema village admitted the shortage and apologised for their illegal conduct in giving 500 grams less for a sum of Rs 400.
The victim personally reported the entire episode to the NVCO president Kezhokhoto Savi with a request to be publish for public consumption so that the general public will not be taken for a ride in future.
Meanwhile, NVCO has vehemently condemned the incident and strongly warned the butchers not to cheat consumers be in weightment or charges in price.
Meanwhile, NVCO asked the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) to check trade licence of all butcher shops and the department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection (LMCP) to conduct surprise checking on genuineness of weighing scale.
With maximum complaint against butchers especially in shortage in weight, NVCO cautioned that such cases will be taken up with the police in future to ensure that the culprit are punished under the criminal laws.
