The Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) has extended its full support and appreciation to the Angami Public Organisation (AYO) in imposing a ban on the sale and marketing of lottery, raffle-buffet, concert tickets, calendars, etc by organisations, unions, clubs, societies, etc under Kohima district.
The NVCO has been raising strong objection by campaigning against the sale and marketing of lottery, raffle-tickets, concert tickets, calendars, muddi, donation vouchers, etc by various bodies of students/sports/youth/women/public/federation including churches in the state and appealed to the State government to issue a ban on such illegal system of collecting cash amounting to public harassment.
“Today the lottery ticket has shoot up to the amount of Rs.15000 and beyond per ticket which is nothing but simply gambling. Recently, the Home department has seriously hurt the NVCO by issuing an order dated 24th Oct 2015 granting the permission to a college student union to sale Raffle Draw tickets in aid their conference. Accordingly the volunteers were selling tickets in petrol pump/fuel station in the State capital and at this juncture the President of NVCO Kezhokhoto Savi has refused to take any tickets despite of polite request extended to him in one of the fuel stations in Kohima town,” a statement issued by Press & Media Cell, NVCO said.
The NVCO expressed its anger with a commitment that they cannot tolerate such action in future.
“However, the action initiated by AYO is timely and every citizen especially the Kohima town should extend full support and co-operation to the ban imposed by AYO which is proper and for the interest of public.”
The NVCO appealed to all citizens not to buy any tickets or raffle so as not to encourage this illegal practice which is amounting to illegal collection of cash. We come across several kinds of illegal collection of cash including the check-gates on highways which is contributing price-rise in the markets.
