Dimapur, May 2 (EMN): Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) has insisted upon the state government to adopt the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014. This appeal was made during the commemoration of International Labour Day on May 1. A NVCO press release stated that it has launched an awareness campaign about Street Vendors Act, two years ago with an appeal to the state government to implement the same. NVCO assured the people that it would continue to campaign on this Act. The organisation has insisted on the important and necessity for citizens to promote and protect their livelihood which wouold improve state economy and promote local product especially organic vegetables and fruits. NVCO president, Kezhokhoto Savi, was of the opinion that the Act would motivate the street vendors to do their business in dignity and provide their livelihood. Savi further suggested that the local vendors should be given preference while issuing certificates of vending or license.
