NUSC seals Aizawl deal, IFL dream kicks off

DIMAPUR — Nagaland United Sports Club (NUSC) has completed its acquisition of Aizawl FC’s Indian Football League (IFL) sporting rights, clearing the way for the Nagaland club to make its national-league debut this season.

NUSC announced the development on Sunday, saying the agreement has been recognised by the All India Football Federation (AIFF).

The club’s entry into the IFL was cleared by the AIFF earlier this month, with Nagaland named among the new venues for the 2026-27 season. The league is scheduled to kick off on October 30.

Under the agreement, NUSC will take over Aizawl FC’s IFL sporting rights, while the Mizoram club will continue its football activities in the state. The arrangement gives NUSC a direct entry into the national league rather than having to work its way up through the lower divisions.

For NUSC, however, the move is being pitched as more than simply an entry into the IFL. The club said it plans to focus on grassroots football, talent identification, sports science and infrastructure, while creating more opportunities for people working in the sport.

It also acknowledged the role of Aizawl FC, Mizoram Football Association, AIFF, the IFL governing body, Nagaland Football Association and the state government led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in facilitating the transition.

NUSC said it wants to build a long-term football setup in Nagaland and give local players greater exposure to the professional game.

The club has adopted “Rise Together” as its motto, with the stated aim of taking Nagaland football to the national stage while creating a pathway from grassroots football to professional opportunities.
