- DIMAPUR — Members
of Student Nurses’ Association at the School of Nursing, District Hospital
Dimapur (DHD) unit, on Friday evening turned out in large number during a
candlelight vigil and demanded prompt justice for its member.
- It may be noted here that a second year General Nursing and
Midwifery (GNM) student was physically assaulted on February 27 at the District
Hospital Dimapur (DHD).
- An update from the association stated that large numbers of
nurses attended the event to expressed solidarity with its members. They
carried banners demanding justice for the victim.
- The members also demanded the state government to enhance
security for student nurses and nursing professionals across Nagaland.
- Meanwhile, the GB Union Dimapur (Sadar) has condemned the
physical assault and alleged attempted rape on a trainee nurse by a staff of
District Hospital Condemning the heinous crime in the strongest term, the union
has described the perpetrator as a ‘beast disguised in a human form,’ who not
fit to be part of civilised society.
- GBUD (S) has urged the concerned district authorities to
take stern punitive action against the perpetrator according to the law. It
also urged the Health department to terminate the service of the culprit
thereby giving a clear warning to curb future occurrences.
- Meanwhile, the union lauded the Police department under the
supervision of Commissioner of Police for prompt action in arresting the main
culprit. It also lauded DHD medical superintendent for reporting the matter to
the higher health authority for appropriate action at the earliest.
- It further prayed for speedy recovery of the victim.
- In another statement the Western Sumi Hoho has expressed
outrage over the incident that happened on February 24 and urged the law
enforcing agency to take necessary steps and award befitting award to the
perpetrator without delay.
- It has termed the act as a direct threat to peace loving
society, which has no place in a civilised society. It affirmed that WSH would
never remain a mute spectator whenever the rights and dignity of ‘our sisters’
are defiled in any manner.
