Changtongya, Jan. 19: Elucidating that educated unemployment problem has become the biggest economic problem today, minister of Elections, National Highway & Mechanical, Nuklutoshi said Nagas do not only require political sovereignty but also needed economic sovereignty.
The minister said this in his address as the chief guest on the second day of 67th triennial general conference of the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM), which is underway at Changtongya village in Mokokchung district. Expressing concern over unemployment problem in the State, which according to him is the biggest economic problem today, Nuklutoshi underscored on quality education to rid this problem from the society.
Stating that the government servants and public ratio is 1:16, he said the government spend 64 percent of the budget for salaries and the rest on developmental works. As per August 2016 record, they are more than 70,000 educated unemployed youth in the State.
In this connection, he said the bottom-line of education is to learn – relearn –and continue learning. He urged the students to eradicate mindset of getting just a mere degree and seek job but to strive toward professionalism.
"The certificates era is over," Nuklutoshi said while challenging students adding just getting a mere degree for job is not worth in this competitive world.
He said the need of the hour for the youth is to focus on entrepreneurship and skill development to be a self sufficient society. He also opined that Naga youth should ventured out beyond the State for employment opportunity.
Nuklutoshi also called upon the students to once again revive the work culture of our forefathers in order to attain economic stability in the society.
Acting president of Ao Senden, C Angang Jamir, and the president of Naga Students' Federation, Subenthung Kithan also spoke at the programme.
C Angang Jamir said the great minds to bring about changes in society are in universities and colleges. He, therefore, urged the students in universities and colleges to share their intellectual to the society.
While maintaining that social media was developed for constructive purpose, NSF president rued that this window has been misused for criticism and accusations. He stated many social media users are very good at giving criticisms and accusations. He said social media contains ninety percent of criticisms and accusations than constructive approach. In this regard, Kithan urged to use such social media for a constructive approach to achieve a progressive society.
While recalling that Naga were one earlier, he regretted that Nagas today lack in unity. He urged the gathering to retrospect and introspect in restoring the oneness among the Naga brothers.
Earlier, the chief guest released the magazine and also gave away the Educational Promotional Trust Award to three meritorious students namely Sentisangla Lemtur (Year of Arts 2014), Moasenla Ao (Year of Commerce 2015) and Yangersenba T Jamir (Year of Science 2016).
