The institution issued a press release to the media on Monday informing about a book-release programme. The book was stated to be an outcome of a national seminar on Climate Change and sustainable development, with special reference to Northeast India. The book carries selected papers that were presented at the seminar, the upgrades stated. The publication is dedicated to the commemoration of the silver jubilee of the university. After releasing the book, Prof. Pardeshi Lal delivered a brief speech during which he said that the book would be 'of use' to students, researchers and policymakers. He exhorted the individuals involved in the seminar and in the publication of the book to not be satisfied with the findings but to "look into them seriously with a view to take necessary action." Lal also spoke about the issues of Climate Change and sustainable development. The simplest definition of ‘sustainable development’ he said was about making best use of what nature offers and passing it on to the future generations in the same, if not better, condition. "He placed emphasis on keeping the surrounding green in the spirit of ‘go green’ mission," the updates stated. Touching upon other aspects of sustainable development such as food and water, Prof. Lal urged the gathering to 'not damage the environment under any circumstances.'
