DIMAPUR — The
Nagaland University (NU) of Lumami campus in Zunheboto district observed the
Indian Constitution Day on Tuesday at I Ihoshe Kinimi Hall.
An update from the university stated that the event was
chaired by Dr. Deepak Bhaskar, assistant professor of Political Science, and
the national song was presented by the members of Chumpo PG Men' Hostel.
In his welcome address, Prof. MK Sinha, Dean of the Social
Sciences, spoke about the history, inception and future prospects of the
Constitution, while Dr. Likhase Sangtam, assistant professor of Political
Science and coordinator of the programme, provided insights into the background
of the making of the Indian Constitution and the significance of Constitution
Day by emphasising its role in incorporating the diverse nature of Indian
society.
Dr. Shasanka S Pati, associate professor of Political
Science, read the Preamble in Hindi, followed by Teisozelhou Beio, convenor of
the Nagaland University Research Scholars Forum, Lumami, who read the Preamble
in English.
The guest of honour and vice chancellor of NU, Prof.
Jagadish K Patnaik, described the Constitution as a living testament to India’s
diversity, stressing that India is not a country of one race but a land of
harmony. He shared details about the Constitution’s calligraphic writing, its
25 parts and 12 schedules by offering the audience a deeper understanding of
its framework.
The programme, attended by statutory officers, deans, HoDs,
faculty, administrative staff, research scholars and PG students, concluded
with the singing of national anthem performed by the members of Nagaland
University Students’ Union, Lumami.
The district legal services authorities (DLSA) under the
aegis of Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) also observed the
Constitution Day in their respective districts by organising various
programmes.
The day was observed in Kohima, Zunheboto, Phek, Peren,
Wokha, Mon, Kohima, Longleng, and Dimapur.
