DIMAPUR, JULY 15: The Nagaland University’s new Sports Complex, consisting of two volley courts, one basketball court and one football ground, was inaugurated today at its headquarters Lumami by Vice-Chancellor Prof. BK Konwar in the presence of Prof. P Lal (PVC, Kohima campus), Prof. T Lanusosang (Registrar), Prof. MK Sinha (Finance Officer), university officials, staff, Howoto Kinny (Head GB, Lumami), and well-wishers. The complex has been named as Dr. T Ao Sports Complex, in honour of late Dr. T. Ao, first Indian football captain in Olympics, also popularly known as “bare-footed football genius”, according to a press release from the university.
“As per record the record, he was the flag bearer of the then Indian Contingent in London Olympics (1948). The sports complex will be a hub of sports activity for the University with Indoor stadium and other outdoor facilities expected to soon come up,” it stated.
