Dimapur, May 5
A joint meeting of the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) and Nagaland Tribes’ Council (NTC) on Nagaland Border issues here today unanimously resolved to form a core committee under the name and style of ‘NTC-ENPO Core Committee on Nagaland Border Issue’. ENPO and NTC will nominate one member each from respective Naga tribes of Nagaland and the presidents of ENPO and NTC will be the ex-officio members in the committee.
The meeting after deliberation on border issues said that Nagaland border issue is a constitutional pre-requisite for state formation to authentically and specifically demarcate the territory of the newly created state under Indian Union.
A statement jointly issued by ENPO President, S. Khoiwang Konyak and NTC President, Lendinoktang Ao said, “Nagaland cannot join Indian Union without its territory to form a part of Indian Union. The Nagaland State was politically created as the 16th State of Indian Union 52 years back under the 13th amendment of Indian Constitution in 1962 without physical demarcation under the Constitutional provision of Article 3 and 4 with assurance to the people that the territorial issues will be addressed in due course of time.”
The meeting expressed the need to review the 13th Amendment of the Constitution of India to give a permanent settlement to Nagaland border problems.
“It is the bounding duty of the Government of India to demarcate the boundary of the newly created state. Nagaland State is politically created with political agreement. Hence, the boundary issues should be settled politically through the process of Article 3 and 4 in the parliament.”
The meeting resolved to collectively pursue all border related issues through political approaches.
