Dimapur, June 3 (EMN): The Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) condemned and expressed shocked at the recent shooting incident upon two cadres of GPRN/NSCN(U) and a civilian in Arunachal Pradesh by the NSCN(IM) cadres. A letter of condemnation from the council was received on Sunday.
‘The recent killing of three precious lives and injury caused on the other two is a grim reminder of our bitter past of how our political groups gave its best to finish each other through game of violence. The incident poses a threat as it would be the possible spark for resumption of similar conflict should it not be contained as required,’ the press release stated.
Stating the incident as rude, the council said that after years of destructive conflicts amongst the Nagas much to the delight of the adversaries, the people have been enjoying relative peace during the last few years without bloodshed.
Expressing the incidents as a double edged, the council stated that such situation has endangered the prevailing peaceful atmosphere including the ongoing process of negotiation which is in progress. The NTC condemned the barbaric action of the aggressor who threw the first stone in total disregard of the popular desire of the Nagas for peace and peaceful coexistence.
Further, the NTC appealed to the aggrieved party to have tolerance and maturity for the sake of the ongoing political negotiation which may attain logical result if smooth passage is paved. ‘The Nagas have to realize that allowing any cowardice element to sabotage the progressive talk will produce only history of regrets,’ it added.
The council also appealed to the public to stand as one behind those who are in pursuit of political solution and not to be swayed by pro-conflict elements.
