Dimapur, July 14 (EMN): The Nagaland Tribes Action Committee on Friday came out strongly against both the legislators and the Governor with regard to the current impasse in the government.
A press release from the organisations stated that , "The NTAC held a meeting at Kohima on 13.07.2017 and had a threadbare discussion about the prevailing state of affairs in the state.
The NTAC is constrained to express shock and concern over the irresponsible and moral conduct of the elected legislators.
The NTAC observed that the elected legislators seem to have totally forgotten their responsibilities for which they were elected but are swayed away by lust for money and power causing the state machineries out of gear and of causing confusion among the general public. The elected legislators must remember that they were elected by the people to work for the welfare of the people and not for money and power.
The elected legislators should also remember that they are the law makers and highest policy-making body in the state. The post of any elected member is vested with high responsibility and therefore, people expect high moral values from every elected leader."
The NTAC also alleged that the activities of the legislators during the tenure of the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly have 'surpassed all moral values of an elected legislator" and that it is time for the elected legislators to realiee their responsibilities and introspect on their conduct and moral values.
The NTAC also took a critical view of the Governor and alleged that a casual was given in solving the ongoing political crisis in the state.
"The Governor must realize that immediate initiative and intervention is necessary to avoid any untoward, unpleasant consequences.
As the head of the state, the Governor is vested with high obligation and responsibility under the Constitution of India.
When the state is facing political crisis, the Governor cannot remain a mute spectator but he must apply his wisdom swiftly and discharge his constitutional obligations and responsibilities by taking preventive measures before the situation goes out of control," it stated.
The NTAC stated that it hopes the Governor and the elected legislators would uphold the basic tenets of democracy and protect it from intrusion of any "autocratic motives".
