Kohima, Feb. 20: Following the resignation of TR Zeliang as the chief minister of Nagaland, the Nagaland Tribes Action Committee (NTAC) Kohima has announced its decision to call off the state-wide shutdown.
The decision to this effect was taken on Monday evening after Zeliang’s resignation was accepted by the governor, who has also assured the NTAC that formation of government under a new leadership would immediately be worked upon.
In a press statement, the NTAC stated that with the decision to cease the ongoing bandh all over Nagaland, it would focus on pursuing to achieve the desire of the people and re-establish a harmonious life in the Naga society.
Also, speaking to media person, NTAC convenor KT Vilie has appreciated Zeliang for listening to the voice of the people, and thus tendering his resignation.
When asked if the NTAC would be disbanded since the demand of the people has been fulfilled, Vilie said it would be decided in a meeting scheduled to be held on February 21 with the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) at Dimapur.
He informed that a group of NTAC members would be attending the meeting at Dimapur while, simultaneously, another group would have a meeting with AYO, APO, ASU and AMK at Kohima.
Vilie also expressed gratitude to the people of Nagaland for standing together in “the fight for justice.” Another NTAC member said it expects the new government to work in consonance with the voice of the people.
He also maintained that there were “still some works to be done and fulfilled” and therefore, he said, disbanding of the committee may not take place immediately.
Ao Senden
In a press release issued today, the Ao Senden also informed that restrictions on functioning of government offices and vehicles were lifted on Monday after it emerged that Zeliang had submitted his resignation.
“However, the demand of the Naga people is still yet to be fully realized and therefore appropriate plan of actions will be undertaken in due course of time and for which the continued support and cooperation is expected from the citizens. Finally, the Aos hopefully awaits the new chief minister to come to a logical conclusion on the remaining demands for the rights of the Nagas,” it stated.
The Ao Senden also acknowledged “the immense contribution in all possible ways” from the citizens of all the 18 wards of Mokokchung, leaders from six ranges (Tsükong Mungdang) as well as students’ bodies of the six ranges, Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem, AKM, landowners board of different villages, ENPO Mokokchung unit, Sumi Community Mokokchung, Lotha Hoho Mokokchung unit, Gorkha Union Mokokchung, mothers from all the 18 wards of Mokokchung, leaders and citizens from various organizations in sub-administrative headquarters under Mokokchung district.
