Dimapur, Oct. 16 (EMN): Naga Students’ Union Bangalore (NSUB) conducted its annual sports meet from October 11 to the 12
th at ITI ground, KR Puram, Bangalore. This year, the sporting event was named Golden Jubilee Sports Meet to commemorate 50 years of NSUB’s existence, which will be celebrated on November 16 2019.
Utham Chengappa, founding partner of MCM Law, was the chief guest of the opening ceremony of the sports meet, informed an update from the union which was made available to the media on Wednesday. Chengappa spoke on the importance of community bonding while addressing the gathering at the event.
In his welcome address, NSUB president Nuthipru Nienu told the crowd “to lose sight of our objectives.” NSUB sports secretary Kezholeto Zao read out rules and regulations before oath taking by the participating teams.
For the first time in NSUB sports meet history, indigenous games like cock fight, bamboo climbing and top spinning were introduced, informed the update. Other games that were played at the event include football, volleyball, basketball, tug of war, 100 meter race, 200 meter race, relay race, push up and arm wrestling.
Tangkhul Naga Welfare Society Bengaluru were declared the overall champion and Ao Kaketshir Telongjem Bangalore was adjudged the best disciplined team of the NSUB Golden Jubilee Sports Meet 2019. Cash prizes, medals and certificates were awarded to all the winners in all disciplines.
NSUB has expressed gratitude to all the sponsors – Bosti, a start up venture from Nagaland based in Bangalore, The Amateur League Specialist Hospital and Redbull, overall champion sponsor Vikato Achumi (former NSUB treasurer), fitness partner CB Physiotherapy, and football officials from Stadium Sports Academy. It also thanked Decathlon for sponsoring kids games and senior citizens games besides several individuals who sponsored cash prizes for different games.
A total of 13 sub-units and over 700 people participated in the two-day event, it informed.
