Advisor for School Education says new authority will audit government and private schools through multiple quality parameters

KOHIMA — Advisor for School Education Kekhrielhoulie Yhome on Thursday said that the newly established Nagaland State School Standards Authority (NSSSA) will assess schools on multiple quality parameters instead of judging them solely by HSLC and HSSLC examination results.
Addressing the Chief Minister's Meritorious Students Fellowship Award (CMMSFA) ceremony in Kohima for the top 50 performers in HSLC Examination 2026 conducted by Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), Yhome said that the state's school education ecosystem is undergoing significant reforms.
According to him, schools have traditionally been judged through public perception and board examination results, but under the NSSSA, both government and private schools will undergo audits based on a range of performance indicators.
"The idea is to ensure that our students receive the quality of education that their counterparts in developed countries enjoy," he said, adding that the School Education department and the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) have also initiated a School Leadership Academy to strengthen educational leadership.
Referring to opportunities available in the digital age, Yhome encouraged students to aim high and make full use of internet-based learning resources.
