Dimapur, May 9 (EMN): A workshop of the Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) on the annual action plan for livelihoods for the financial year 2019-20, has concluded. The objective of the workshop was to enhance the capacity of the livelihoods professional team and block program managers (BPM) in 'deepening multiple livelihoods intervention' in 43 blocks, updates stated.
The establishment of the NSRLM issued a press release on Thursday offering the updates.
In his keynote address, Chief Operating Officer M Rollan Lotha highlighted the state's overall achievements, gaps in implementations and planned targets for the financial year 2019-20.
Lotha was stated to have emphasized on the "underutilized rich natural resources in the state and the latent multiple livelihoods opportunities it promises for the rural populace."
The official also talked about 6500 self help groups that are part of the state mission today. Due to limited or lack of banks in the blocks, he said, the community investment support fund provided to them remains one of the few options for undertaking various income generating activities to enhance their livelihoods.
Unless there are enough viable livelihood options with end-to-end support the community funds will remain underutilized," Lotha said.
"This is where the livelihoods professional team and CSPs are required to jointly put in their concerted efforts to ensure there is significant livelihoods integration across all sectors.:
The official called for a committed spirit from the stakeholders to take ownership, and be proactive. he urged them to go beyond their standard job description and contribute innovations in the field.
"Nonchalant attitude and wrong guidance towards their assigned responsibilities would be playing with the destiny of the rural populace, which in itself is akin to a crime," the press release stated.
The workshop gave discourses on various services for accessing various services. the services include technical assistance, organic certification, branding and packaging.
Lotha iterated that the state mission was committed to "ensuring enhanced livelihoods through multiple interventions in convergence or collaboration.
The updates stated that the district-block team also presented reports about the progress of the program, and about the challenges and future plans concerning the program.
The broad outcome of the three day intensive workshop had various segments, the updates stated. They included district-block wise plenary sessions, target setting and planning of dedicated activities in sustainable agriculture including but not limited to improved paddy, nutrition garden, propagation of organic composting/practices.
Likewise, the press release mentioned livestock practices including but not limited to sanitation, de-worming, vaccination and improved feeding practices; and non-pesticide management and organic practices, the press release stated.
