- KOHIMA — The
Nsong Area Sports Association (NASA), headquartered in Nsong, Peren, officially
launched its third sports meet at Lalong village, Peren district, on Wednesday.
- The event, which runs until January 31, is being conducted
on the theme "Arise and shine," stated an update.
- This year's event aims to promote sportsmanship, unity, and
youth empowerment through competitive sports, providing a platform for young
athletes to showcase their skills and foster community spirit.
- The inaugural ceremony was attended by Azanbo Nbung, general
secretary of NCP 6-Tening A/C, as the special guest.
- In his address, Nbung highlighted the integral role that
sports play in shaping society by promoting physical fitness, teamwork,
discipline, and social connectivity.
- He emphasised how sports transcend boundaries and bring
people together, fostering a sense of patriotism, cultural unity, and national
pride. Additionally, he underscored the importance of inclusive participation,
encouraging more female athletes to take part in future sporting events.
- This year's sports meet includes futsal (men) and volleyball
(men and women), as well as individual athletic events such as the marathon,
long jump, high jump, and shot put. Athletes from various villages across the
region are participating in the event.
