Dimapur, May 29 (EMN): A two-day refreshers training for panel lawyers by the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) got underway at Administrative Training Institute which was scheduled to be conducted in Kohima from May 29 to the 30th.
A press release from the legal authority on Tuesday informed that the executive chairman of NSLSA, L S Jamir, in his address stated that the responsibility of the panel lawyers of legal services was more than other lawyers under any institution, to understand the problem of the underprivileged, the needy, and the downtrodden. He therefore urged the panel lawyers to work hard while preparing for cases.
Jamir implore to panel lawyers not to accept any gifts from people while rendering free legal aid. He also advised to resolve issues amicably, incase of misunderstandings over cases among the panel lawyers.
The chairman Jamir apprised that the refresher training was targeted at various aspects, particularly the schemes under the NLSA and other laws. He congratulated the member secretary of NSLSA for covering wide range of topics during the two-day training.
The member secretary of the NSLSA, Mezivolu T Therieh in her keynote address, said that the two day refreshers training was organised to increase the capacity of the panel lawyers in order to render complete and quality legal services.
She said panel lawyers play an indispensable role in carrying out the activities of the legal services authority as they act as catalyst between the people and the law. Therefore, she stated that ‘quality trainings for better performance cannot be overlooked in order to achieve the objectives of access to justice.’
Therieh underscored on the need to build strategies and programmes, so that the legally, socially, and economically underprivileged sections of the society benefit from their services.
