Kohima, June 17 (EMN): The summer internship programme of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) has begun. The program started on June 17 for students undertaking law degree courses, a press release stated on Monday.
The internship programme will be for a duration of 12 days. It has selected 24 students to 'intensively acquaint them on legal aid and assistance,' updates said.

At Kohima and Dimapur, the interns are said to have met with the district sessions judge and chief judicial magistrate, among others, during an orientation programme. The interns were briefed on the activities and assignments that will be undertaken during the internship.
The students were informed that in the following days, they will be visiting jails, observation homes and juvenile justice boards; mental health institutes and drug rehabilitation centres; child welfare committees; old age home and "special homes"; and courts etc. They will be attending legal programmes and literacy clubs too, the updates informed.
Further, the interns will interact with jail inmates 'to find out if they are being represented by a council, whether private or public legal service lawyer; and find out difficulties among others.'
'Such forms of interaction are also expected to be done in all the institute visitation. During the end of the programme they are entitled to present a paper,' the updates added.
