Dimapur, June 5 (EMN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) lauded the Government of Nagaland and ANCSU for sorting out the issue amicably on Wednesday. However, it has said that it won’t accept “verbal commitment without action.”
The federation has come up with a list of demands for the state government to fulfill in connection with ANCSU’s charter of demands after a thorough deliberation at an emergency meeting on June 5.
The NSF has stated that the Lokayukta should complete the investigation pertaining to the scholarship issue within two weeks’ time and that the charge-sheeted officials should be immediately suspended.
Regarding the demand for setting up of a Nodal Cell, the federation said that it should function as a separate entity of the Higher & Technical Education department and consist of a seven-member committee headed by the Commissioner & Secretary of the department as the chairman. It said the committee should include ‘Director, Technical Education; Director, Higher Education; Nodal Officer in the rank of Deputy Director/Jt. Director from Higher Education department; Nodal Officer from Technical Education department; representative from NSF; and representative from ANCSU.
Concerning the Kohima Science College land encroachment issue, the federation has demanded the state government to furnish the “status report and action taken” on the comprehensive report released on October 24, 2018, within 30 days of receipt of the communication from NSF office. It also demanded that the government conducts a “proper survey” on all land encroachment issues in the district colleges and polytechnic institutions and retain the land belonging to the institutions.
On the issue of “110 asst. professor posts for recruitment,” the NSF stated that it won’t allow the quality of education of the students to be compromised by randomly resorting to back door appointments. It has demanded the government to issue a public advertisement for recruitment within two months.
“If this reasonable demand is not met by the Govt., the NSF shall have no other option, but to resort to its own course of actions,” it warned.
“The Federation expects a matured approach from the Government and the concerned department in dealing with the genuine issues that the students’ community has raised under the banner of ANCSU. NSF urged upon the Government to settle the issues with utmost seriousness and sincerity with the urgency it deserves,” it added.
