Rooster Club registered an easy win over Zeal Sporting Club 3-0 in the last match of the first round to mark their entry into the tournament. With the win, Rooster Club will face Mongols FC, Dimapur in the second round on October 9. Theja Chuse of Rooster Club scored two stunning goals in the first half but missed a penalty in the second half to make it a hat-trick. Ketoulhousie Sile-o goal in the 71st minute completed the game for Rooster Club. In the first match, Eleven Avengers defeated T.T.Y.O A.G 5-3 via a penalty shootout after the match ended 1-1 draw in the stipulated time. From a hero to villain, Albert Tsopoe of A.G scored a goal in the match to give the lead but missed a penalty in the shootout as his team suffered defeat at the hands of Avengers. During the match, Albert Tsopoe scored in the 21st minute for T.T.Y.O A.G to give the lead, while Avengers side were wasteful throughout the match as they failed to find the back of the net until a goalkeeping error from the rival side helped the team to equalize the score in the 50th minute through Neisaletuo Kuotsu. During the penalty shootout, Albert missed the penalty as the goalkeeper came in rescue and the shootout went in favour of Avengers 5-3. Avengers will clash with Barak FC Peren in the second round of the tournament on October 10. Tyrants FC thrashed Kohima Royal Kickers 3-0 in the second match. A brace from Kedozo Thapru and Viho Kin was enough for Tyrants FC to seal the victory. Tyrants will now face Dream FC in the second round on October 10. Wednesday’s matches Kigwema Students’ Union vs NU Campus at 12:30 p.m Nagaland Police (Red) vs Upper Bayavu at 2 p.m So far 83 goals scored in the tournament With the end of the 1st round in the ongoing 18th NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy 2017, 918 footballers from 51 teams are partaking in this edition, 19 participating teams have exited in the 1st round, a total of 32 teams are still in the fray for the coveted trophy. So far 83 goals have been scored at an average of 4.37 goals per match and 24 yellow cards were shown, 5 players scored hat-tricks, Rokosazo Chakriino the striker of Chedema village Youth organization leads the highest scorer tally with 5 goals followed by Zhazoto Sale of Kigwema SU and Rahul Kamei of Billy Graham FC with 4 goals each, Rahul Kamei also holds the distinction of scoring the fastest goal (1min 20 sec). Mathew Kezhose of forerunners FC and Pete of Butchers Union are tied in third for the highest scorer managing a hat-trick each. The second round of the tournament will begin from October 3 and expected to draw a good number of football fans with many popular teams including defending champion Nagaland police and runner-up Forerunner FC, 4th NAP and fourth place Barak FC. With convincing wins in their first matches Chedema Village YO, kigwema SU and Billy Graham FC are billed to be strong contenders from Nagaland, four teams from Manipur Khyouchi FC, Lamphel FC, Esii United FC including former champion Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong(TKS) will all play in the second round. Lamphel FC has confirmed the participation of Francis. O, a Nigerian Player as their striker, which will be an added attraction for football fans beside the many exciting matches in the offing for football fans.
