Lamphel FC, Manipur dismantle Khriekesa FC 7-0 to enter quarters

Kohima, Oct. 14 (EMN): Lamphel FC, Manipur and Barak FC, Peren won their respective pre-quarterfinal matches and entered the quarterfinals of the ongoing NSF Martyrs' Football Trophy at Kohima local ground on Saturday. With the win, Lamphel FC will lock horns with Barak FC in the quarterfinals of the tournament on October 17.
In a seven-goal thriller, Lamphel FC, Manipur showed their class as they hammered Khriekesa FC, Meriema 7-0 to enter the quarters. Khriekesa FC was no match for Lamphel FC side as they suffered defeat to end their saga in the tournament.
Nigerian player Francis O strike again at the local ground as he scored a brace again for Lamphel FC to put the team in the driver's seat, while a brace from Anao and a goal each from Golmei, Tuisem, and Rambo completed the riot for Lamphel FC.
During the match, Francis O opened the account for Lamphel in the 9th minute, while captain Golmei doubled the lead in the 28th minute; Anao added the third goal just before the break to make it 3-0.
Khriekesa FC never recovered from three goals down in the second half with Francis O scoring his double in the 44th minute, while Tuisem and Rambo added a goal each in the 57th and 63rd minute respectively.
Anao completed the rout with his second goal in the 66th minute to make it 7-0 at the end of the final whistle. During the match, a yellow card was shown to Francis O of Lamphel FC.
In a thrilling encounter over a packed crowd, two times champions Barak FC narrowly defeated Tyrants FC, Khuzama 1-0 in the first match.
Underdogs Tyrants side gave a good fight, but a goal from Barak’s striker Khwetelhi Thopi in the 35th minute gifted the winner. Thopi goal was the only difference as Barak FC narrowly escaped a defeat to enter the quarters. Two yellow cards were shown to Asiu and Kivi Zhimo of Barak FC and Ketozo Thaprü of Tyrants FC, Khuzama in the match.
