DIMAPUR — While
condemning the reprehensible action of Prof. Sarat Chandra Yenisetti of Zoology
department at Nagaland University (NU), Lumami campus, the Naga Students’
Federation (NSF) has demanded his termination from service within three days.
In a letter to the vice chancellor of Nagaland University,
Lumami headquarters, through the pro-vice chancellor at Meriema campus, the NSF
pointed out that on November 25 during office working hours, Prof. Yenisetti
was involved in an appalling incident wherein he verbally abused a group of
postgraduate students using highly offensive and degrading language. In
addition, he physically assaulted a female assistant professor from the same
department.
NSF stated that such conduct was a direct violation of
institutional values and ethics as well as a grave affront to human dignity and
professional standards.
It stated that the November 25 incident was not an isolated
occurrence as Prof. Yenisetti has a history of unprofessional and unethical
behavior. It added that his repeated acts of intimidation, verbal abuse and
disregard for the safety of students and faculty have created an atmosphere of
fear and hostility within the department.
“Such actions not only harm the victims but also tarnish the
reputation of Nagaland University, an institution that stands as a beacon of
learning and progress. It erodes the trust and confidence of students, faculty
and stakeholders in the university's ability to provide a safe and nurturing
environment for academic and professional growth,” the federation said.
In view of the above mentioned circumstances, the NSF has
demanded the administration to take immediate and decisive action by
terminating Prof. Yenisetti within three days. It stated that failure to
address the demand within the stipulated period would invite necessary measures
from the federation.
It has further recommended the university administration to
adopt stringent policies and mechanisms to prevent such incidents in the future.
Ensuring a secure and respectful atmosphere on campus is critical for fostering
intellectual growth and mutual respect among students and faculty alike, it
added.
