DIMAPUR — The Inner Line Regulation Commission (ILRC), under the aegis of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), conducted a sensitisation programme on the Inner Line Regulation (ILR) at the indoor stadium of St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) in Jakhama on April 28.
Delivering the keynote address, Vimeyiekho Vitso, Vice President of NSF, pointed out the significance of the ILR in safeguarding the identity, land, and future of the indigenous Naga people.
He also stressed the urgent need for collective responsibility and awareness in ensuring the proper implementation of the regulation.
According to an update, Senchumo NSN Lotha, Chairman of ILRC, elaborated on the historical and legal foundations of the ILR, originally introduced under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation of 1873. He underscored the growing challenges posed by unchecked influx and the need for a stricter enforcement mechanism to protect the socio-economic and cultural fabric of Nagaland.
Various speakers were of the unanimous opinion that while Nagaland possesses adequate legal provisions, the major challenge lies in effective implementation. They called upon the public, particularly the youth, to remain vigilant, responsible, and proactive in upholding the intent of the ILRC.
They reiterated that entry into the state must be regulated through proper documentation in accordance with the law.
