KOHIMA, JULY 16
THE Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on Wednesday vehemently condemned “the highhandedness and arrogant act” of the 19 Assam Rifles (AR) meted upon an innocent citizen Ketusielie Kuotsu and his family in the wee hours of July 12 at Officers Hill Colony, Kohima. The federation has demanded the IGAR (N) for redressal to the incident and to question the concerned commanding officer whether it is justifiable to say “sorry” after harassing and creating fear psychosis in the mind of the innocent public and whether the Assam Rifles are “Friends of the Hill People” or “Foes of the Hill People” as their actions always relate to the later phrase.
In a release issued by its vice president Joseph Ngouri and assistant general secretary Kesosul Christopher, the NSF expressed resentment against frequent atrocities by the Assam Rifles perpetrated on Nagas due to the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) and time and again creating war-like situations despite the ceasefire being signed at the highest level.
“It is indeed horrifying to even imagine of what the Assam Rifles (AR) will do to harm a mere public if a government employee can be harassed to such an extent even after identifying himself,” the release stated.
The NSF observes that the incident reflects of “ill-intended activities of the Assam Rifles” acting as negative forces and the draconian law where innocent citizens are targeted without any reason.
Stating that the Naga people have suffered enough untold harassment and hardship from the hands of the Indian Military, the federation asserted that Nagas can no longer tolerate such kind of repeated atrocities meted to the innocent civilians. The NSF also strongly demanded that the Government of India revoke the draconian AFSPA and remove the Assam Rifles from all the Naga Inhabited areas.
