Dimapur,Aug. 14 (EMN): The Naga Students Federation (NSF) celebrated the 72nd Naga Independence Day at the office of Dimapur Naga Students’ Union on Tuesday during which, Naga national flag was unfurled.
The Social and Cultural secretary of the NSF, Deivi informed that the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) general secretary, Donald V Thabah, who was the guest speaker.
Affirmed that the NSF and KSU will continue to strive for brotherhood and strengthen its existing bond .
Referring to the Naga struggle for independence, he said that he was saddened at the ignorance of the present generation who knows nothing about the history of the Naga struggle. He also suggested that Naga struggle should be a part of the school curriculum and be studied as a history subject.
Speaking about the indifferent attitude of the mainland towards the Northeast, Thabah lamented that they hardly know the culture of the Northeast people. “They want us to assimilate and that is unacceptable,” he maintains.
Encouraging the Naga nationalism, he said, “log drums were beaten earlier to announce new developments like an attack from the enemy, now they are being beaten to echo in the ears of the people and to invoke in them the spirit of Naga nationalism, brotherhood amongst various tribes, sacrifice for the sake of the homeland, and to etch a better future generation.”
