KOHIMA, MARCH 20
The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) organized a solemn function to commemorate the 30th anniversary of NSF Martyrs’ Day today in memory of late Kekuojalie Sachü and late Vikhozo Yhoshü, at the NSF Martyrs’ Park, Kohima.
Kekuojalie and Vikhozo were victims of an alleged indiscriminate shooting by the state police forces on March 20, 1986 where they were part of a peaceful protest in Kohima called by the NSF to protest against the state government’s decision on the introduction of IPS (Indian Police Service) cadres in Nagaland and the extension of the Disturbed Area Belt from 5 km to 20 km along the Indo-Myanmar, the then Burma, border. Every year, March 20 is commemorated as the NSF Martyrs Day.
This morning, the programme was attended by officials of NSF, All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) and Angami Students’ Union and family members of the “martyrs”.
Pochury Baptist Church Kohima pastor, Rev. Zhiwhuotho Katiry pronounced a prayer while NSF president, Subenthung Kithan delivered a brief address.
The short memorial service concluded with laying of wreaths on the graves of the “martyrs”.
