Kohima, Dec. 19: Against the backdrop of the crisis in Manipur wherein many innocent Nagas travellers in Manipur were reportedly assaulted and their vehicles and luggage were destroyed and burnt down on the Highways, the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has on Monday resolved to impose “total blockade” of all Manipur-bound vehicles in the Naga inhabited areas till the government of Manipur assures for the safety and security of the Nagas in Manipur.
A press release issued by NSF president Subenthung Kithan and assistant general secretary Kesosul Christopher Ltu stated that the decision to impose the blockade was taken after “thorough deliberation on the present imbroglio that is happening in Manipur. The federation informed that, however, in good faith, students travelling back to Manipur for vacation would be exempted from the purview of the bandh.
The NSF expressed dismay that many students returning home for vacation had their academic documents destroyed and burnt down at the Imphal Airport while the police personnel on duty had remained mute spectators. “A group of people under the patronage of the Government of Manipur even went to the extent of vandalizing churches and forcefully stopped members from attending the Sunday church service,” stated the release.
It added that the present crisis was a creation of the government of Manipur by breaching the agreement on the creation of the Sadar Hills which was signed between the government of Manipur and the Nagas.
