Taking stock of the various disastrous incidents in the State, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), under Home Department, had deputed officials to aid the District Disaster Management Authorities in physically verifying and providing relief.
Stating that financial relief is being given as per the norms and guidelines laid down by the Government of India, the Home Commissioner, Neihu C Thur, said financial relief had been sent to all the affected District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs). He said relief was also distributed to the affected citizens of Surohoto on April 22.
He said flash flood situation in Tuli receding to normalcy but the areas in Chuchu and Opangkong circle are yet to normalize. In Mon district paddy fields and crop cultivation were damaged, while adding that the road from Tobu to Mon has been totally cut off at two locations. It was reported that more than 20 houses were damaged in Ukha village and hailstorm had injured children and wrecked havoc in many villages.
He said NSDMA is well aware of the prevailing situation and is taking measures to provide immediate relief to the affected districts, adding NSDMA is taking prompt action upon receiving ‘damage assessment’ reports from the DDMAs. He has asked the public may call on the State Emergency Operation Centre’s toll free No. 1070 for any information and assistance.
Meanwhile, NSDMA appealed to the people of Nagaland to refrain from spreading rumors of impending disasters as it could affect the psyche of the people but to remain vigilant and prepared for any disaster.
