DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across the state from September 30 to October 3.
In a four-day weather advisory issued on Monday, it informed that most parts of Nagaland will witness localised thunderstorms with moderate rain during the period.
However, heavy downpour is expected on September 30 in Kohima, Kiphire, Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Niuland and Tuensang districts, likely accompanied by lightning and strong winds.

It further warned that due to high precipitation in the hill sector, lowland and foothill areas—including Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit and Tuli—remain vulnerable to waterlogging and flash floods.
In this regard, the NSDMA urged residents of low-lying areas to keep valuable documents in safe storage, evacuate when advised by authorities, avoid entering or driving through flooded areas, disconnect electrical appliances, and ensure safe drinking water by boiling or chlorination.
The public has also been cautioned to remain alert to open drains and flood channels.
Similarly, residents in hilly districts have been advised to stay vigilant against possible landslides.
The NSDMA cautioned against moving near slopes during heavy or continuous rainfall, and urged people to be alert to unusual sounds such as cracking trees, rolling stones, or sudden changes in stream water volume and colour, which may signal debris flow.
It appealed to the public to exercise utmost caution and requested all district disaster management authorities and line departments to remain on high alert to safeguard lives and property during this period.
For emergencies, citizens may contact the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) through toll-free number 1070, 112 (ERSS for Disaster Management), or 0370-2291120/2291122.
