Dimapur, Sep. 23 (EMN): Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) conducted an earthquake evacuation drill and Mithun Caravan at Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School, Kohima, on September 22.
As part of the drill, an emergency siren was sounded at around 10:30 a.m. prompting a mad scramble in every classroom. During the drill class teachers were evacuated to safe zones outside the school building through the escape routes, which have been prepared since 2014 by the school authority.
Later, ‘Mithun Caravan’ was conducted, which is a replica of the Japanese school safety programme ‘Iza Kaeru Cavaran’ and first of its kind in the country to the school children.
It is a recreational game but also educational as it creates awareness among the students on how to respond to disasters through the game. The concept was introduced to the State by Jonjibemo Odyuo, SRRO, and Thejangulie Zao, DDMO, Kohima, who had attended one and half month course during October and November 2016 on community based disaster risk reduction at Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA), Kobe, Japan.
