DIMAPUR — The NSCN/GPRN (Yung Aung) and ULFA-I have announced a boycott of India's Independence Day celebrations in all WESEA Region.

In a joint statement issued through the MIP NSCN (YA), the two groups affirmed that “freedom cannot exist on oppressed land and the Wesean people will never celebrate the Independence of our oppressors.”

“In fact this day will continue to be a painful reminder of the relentless brutality of the Indian occupational forces, who continues to wage war on Wesean people with impunity, inflicting untold pain and suffering.

“The right to self-defence of Wesean nations against such cruelty is regarded as terrorism but no matter what, our resolve is stronger than ever before.”

The two groups also called upon freedom lovers in the “so-called states” of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland to reject the imposed celebration by remaining indoors on August 15.

“By doing so, you give us the strength and courage that we are not alone. It will stand as powerful testaments of our collective resilience against the on-going oppression.

“As India unfurls its colonial flag let us unfurl the truth by exposing India's war crimes in our Region,” the joint statement added.
