Dimapur, Aug. 29 (EMN): As the Naga peace talks inch closer towards finding an ‘acceptable solution and logical conclusion’ after decades of ‘killings, bloodshed and tears,’ NSCN(R) urged the Nagas not to miss the opportunity but support both the Government of India and the NSCN to resolve the long-pending issue at the earliest, adding it would not only bring peace in the ‘entire region’ but also catapult developments to newer heights.
NSCN (R)’s statement through its MIP expressed delight that Nagas have finally prepared themselves to embrace peace for an acceptable solution and logical conclusion based on contemporary reality while keeping in mind the historical and political rights.
It, however, regretted that some forces have upped-the-ante against the NSCN functionary and taking aggressive posture in full combat fatigues in blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement. It felt that such activities would not only send wrong signals and messages to the Nagas but also has the potential to severely affect the peace efforts of both the GoI and the NSCN.
NSCN (R) has strongly denied the allegation of running an extortion in the state capital of Arunachal Pradesh (Itanagar) and also at Naharlagun and termed the allegations not only bereft of truth but uncalled for.
It also claimed that about a year ago atleast 30-40 non-Naga youth from western Arunachal Pradesh wanted to join the NSCN but were politely refused under a clause in the ceasefire agreement between the GOI and the NSCN that, “the NSCN (R) will not impart any military training or arm anyone/group during the period of ceasefire,” in the interest of peace which is of paramount importance at this crucial and delicate time so as to keep undesirable situations at bay and to abstain from creating any unnecessary fuss.
On the recent news of the alleged killing of a youth in Changlang, NSCN (R) stated that it was not only highly disturbing but also an act of regression. It condemned such act where an innocent life was snatched away. It added that NSCN (R) would not tolerate any such acts of killings or intimidations in any manner under any circumstances.
Stating that an ‘intensive internal inquiry’ has been ordered to find out the truth, NSCN (R) said necessary action would be initiated as per the national azah and party discipline if any of its cadres are found to be involved.
