NSCN (IM) welcomes Ajit Lal as new Naga talks interlocutor

DIMAPUR — The NSCN (IM) has welcomed the appointment of retired IPS officer and former Chairman of Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC), Ajit Lal, as the new interlocutor for the Indo-Naga political talks.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the group described the appointment as reflection of the government of India’s renewed resolve to advance the political dialogue with “seriousness and urgency”.

The NSCN (IM) also welcomed the reported decision to include a Union minister, or a group of Union ministers, in the negotiation framework.

It expressed hope that the involvement of Union-level ministers would help expedite the political process and create momentum towards an “honourable and enduring political settlement”.

The group also thanked the Nagaland government led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for its participation and facilitation of the Indo-Naga dialogue.

The NSCN (IM) said the state government’s engagement had helped sustain the peace process and ensure that the voices of the Naga people remained central to the negotiations.

It also expressed gratitude to the Naga people for their continued support, solidarity and prayers for the negotiating team and its leadership.

The group reiterated it remained committed to pursuing an honourable and enduring political solution at the earliest.
