Dimapur, May 16 (EMN): Kyong region authorities of the NSCN/GPRN, during surprise checking along Merapani-Wokha road on May 13, apprehended three women at Vankhosung area in possession of around 6000 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon. The region secretary P Renthungo Odyuo said the seized contraband were later destroyed in the presence of LSU officials, youth leaders and elders of Orchid Colony and GPRN officials on May 15. It informed all concerned citizens that the inflow of drugs from Merapani (Assam) to Wokha, which is going on at an alarming rate, need combined effort for immediate intervention from all concerned organisations especially the security agencies, NGOs and the churches, before Wokha district becomes another Punjab state where addiction is at an all time high (As per latest survey carried out by PODS in collaboration with AIIMS, New Delhi). Expressing concern, it said the menace of drugs and its ill effects on the present day society is manifesting itself in the form of increased crime rates, theft, prostitution, broken families and premature deaths. CAO Caretaker, on behalf of the Kyong regional authority of the GPRN, fervently appealed to all the smugglers and peddlers under Kyong region to immediately desist from their illegal activities for the betterment of the society and for Lotha future. It further cautioned that failure to take heed of the appeal would be dealt with the severest of punishment without any reservation. In this regard, it has support and cooperation from all and sundry.
