DIMAPUR — The NSCN (IM) has expressed its opposition to the alleged setting up of UNLF designated camp in Naga territory in Manipur and demanded immediate shifting of the camp.
The NSCN (IM), in a press statement, said that ever since the Government of India and the UNLF (Pambei) entered into peace agreement, the NSCN (IM) has been following the development with much curiosity and interest.
It asserted that it is the primary duty of the NSCN (IM) to protect its people and geopolitical issue, which encompasses various aspects such as safeguarding the rights and well-being of the Nagas, defending against external threats and preserving territorial integrity of Nagalim.
By doing so, the NSCN (IM) aims to create a stable and secure environment where its territory is not intruded by unauthorised people or organisations, it maintained.
“Significantly, when the Government of India and NSCN signed ceasefire to process the political talks, everything was formally discussed and arrangements done accordingly with regards to setting up of designated camps,” the statement read.
However, the NSCN (IM) alleged that in the case of GoI and UNLF, setting up “designated camps” was handled in a haphazard manner without considering the geopolitical sentiment.
“What is more ironic is the setting up of UNLF designated camp in Naga territory in Manipur without the consent or knowledge of the Naga public. Such reckless intrusion is highly condemnable,” it said.
The NSCN (IM) went on to question whether GoI was trying to “incite communal war between the Meiteis and the Nagas.”
“All these confusions should be done away with lest undesirable consequences arise,” it added.
