[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he ongoing ceasefire agreement between the Government of India(GOI) and National Socialist Council of Nagalim (IM) was not extended to Manipur.
“It’s a fact, it (ceasefire) was not extended,” says Manipur Deputy chief minister Gaikhangam. “There are also no designated camps.”
But army authority said there are ‘noted camps’.The government of Manipur had lodged serious complaint to central authority against such report and the state government is still fighting for it,Gaikhangam who holds the home portfolio said while replying to a question by the Congress MLA RK Anand of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa seat in Imphal in the state assembly today.
However the outfit has committed as many as 420 criminal cases after the ceasefire while 455 cadres were arrested within the territory of Manipur,he added.There are also instances of arresting self style kilonser(minister) Karaiba Chawang and self style deputy kilonser Ak Lungaleng within the territory of Manipur.“The state government is seriously monitoring the situation,” he said. “Necessary steps have been taken up not only against the NSCN-IM but also against the other parties.”
Phones not functioning:All the land line telephones of Manipur’s 93 police stations except the city (Imphal) police station and SP Imphal West control room are not functioning. This came to light when opposition MLA Th Biswajit Singh of Trinamool Congress demanded a list of telephone numbers of all the police stations under the state home department during the question and answer session of the ongoing budget session of the assembly on Monday.
MLA Biswajit said the general public has been facing inconvenience in view of the absence of the land line telephones of the concerned police stations in view of the volatile law and order in the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who holds the home portfolio replying to the question assured that all the non-functioning, disconnected, un-serviceable and no connection telephones of the said police stations will be restored soon. “We will rectify it soon for public convenience”, says Gaikgangam.However he did not elaborate on the time frame of restoring the non-functioning telephone numbers. According to home minister, there are 67 police stations which have no telephone connections, 13 disconnected telephone numbers, 10 un-serviceable telephones out of state’s 93 police stations.
