NSCN (IM) cadre apprehended

Imphal, March 3 : Security forces in Manipur have apprehended a cadre of the NSCN (IM). Based on intelligence inputs that six NSCN (IM) cadres were resting in a house on the southern edge of Kadi-IV village, troops of the Tamei Battalion under the aegis of Senapati Brigade apprehended them. The NSCN-IM cadre was said to be involved in poll campaigns in Manipur, according to PIB (Defence wing) sources. “On seeing the security forces approaching, the cadres ran southwards and tried to disappear in the thick forest. The scout of search group apprehended one cadre, SS Cpl Withonbou, NSCN (IM) cadre, aged about 28 of Kowalong village with NSCN (IM) uniform, kit bag and Rs 4,800 in cash,” the PIB stated in the press release. “On further interrogation, he revealed that he had joined NSCN (IM) in August 2008 and they had been intimidating villagers of Lower Takou, Chaton, Kadi-I & IV to vote for NPF on the directions of CAO Makuilongdi region, Merising.” The apprehended cadre SS Cpl Withonbou and the seized items were handed over to Patsoi police station on March 1, it added.
