Dimapur, April 20 (EMN): In the first project of its kind in Nagaland, the department of New and Renewable Energy (NRE) has launched a 5 Megawatt Solar Power plant in Hovukhu village under Niuland district, which is expected to complete by January 31, 2023.
The advisor of NRE, IT and C and Science and Technology, Mmhonlumo Kikon, laid the foundation stone at the project site on Wednesday in the presence of PHE minister Jacob Zhimomi, Rajya Sabha MP S Phangnon Konyak, and advisor of Tourism Khehovi Yehpthomi.
Speaking on the occasion, Kikon has termed Hovukhu village ‘lucky’ to have the first mega solar power plant in the state. He asked the villagers to continue maintaining the bond of friendship between Niuland and Bhandari constituency.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=6]He assured that with the setting up of a solar power plant project, other developments like roads, bridges and employment would come along. He, therefore, sought the cooperation from the villagers.
While pointing out that Nagaland state has a lot of problems, he stated that it depended on how the citizens solve them.
The director of NRE, Kimaba, said that the project, after its completion, would generate 7-8 million units in a year. He also requested the villagers to cooperate and support the department in order to complete the project on time.
Phangnon Konyak and Jacob Zhimomi also delivered short speeches during the programme.
The head GB of the village, Viniho Achumi, also shared the grievances on behalf of the villagers and requested the ministers to look into the matter of kuccha roads and wooden bridges in the village.
