DIMAPUR — The ICAR–National Research Centre on Mithun, Medziphema, participated in the first Mithun festival held at Kipeilua village, Laisong Constituency, Dima Hasao, Assam, on Friday.
The festival was organised by the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC) in collaboration with the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary department, Forest department, and Tourism department, an update stated.
The ICAR–NRC on Mithun set up a dedicated stall showcasing mithun-based products and technical literature, generating keen interest among farmers, stakeholders, and visitors.

During the event, Dr. Girish Patil, Director of ICAR–NRC on Mithun, delivered a talk highlighting the prospects and developmental pathways of the mithun sector in Assam, with emphasis on conservation, sustainable utilization, and livelihood enhancement.
The festival underscored the importance of protecting and promoting mithun, a prized semi-domesticated bovine of the North Eastern States of India, including Dima Hasao.
The programme was inaugurated by Debolal Gorlosa, CEM of DHAC, in the presence of eminent dignitaries, including Dr. Girish Patil; Dr. Kishore Kr. Baruah, GB Member, ICAR, New Delhi; chairman, EMs, MACs, and senior district-level officials, it stated.
